Human Popsicle
I have not had heat since sometime on Saturday night. I got home around 11-1:30pm, and turned up my heat. Sometime between 12 and 1 I checked thermostat, and despite my setting it to about 70 degrees, it was still registering around 60. I called the gas company first thing the next morning (after much searching for a number), and was told to contact the owner of my building. I called the management company, as this is the only number I have on record, and got their voicemail (which is not helpful whatsoever - it gives me the fax and a number of extensions - no hint as to who to contact for what issue, or what to do in case of emergency). Here is the timeline since then:
Sunday, January 9, 7:57 am: Left message for John, the man who signed the letter welcoming me to the apartment in May.
Sunday, January 9, 9:20 am: Uncle arrived, we went to the basement to check out the situation. Noted the pilot was not lit, attempted to re-light.
Sunday, January 9, roughly 10:00am: Left apartment.
Monday, January 10, 8:02 am: Called management company and spoke to John. Was told someone was on their way to look into the situation.
Monday, January 10, 10:00 am: Called management company, spoke to John. Someone is on their way from Arlington. Should be there by late morning depending on traffic. I asked about emergencies such as this. As far as he knows, the main office number is the only number to call.
Monday, January 10, 11:18 am: Called management company, spoke to Maria. She called “Paul” to see where he was, and he is responding to another heating emergency in Arlington. Will be here at some point today to address the situation.
Monday, January 10, 11:22 am: Called the Board of Health to ask about the situation. Apparently, because the management company was not notified until this morning, they will have until tomorrow morning to fix the situation.
My question: Were they notified this morning, or Sunday morning? I did all I could. There is no emergency number. I contacted someone as soon as I verified that my heat was not working. It has been over 24 hours.
UPDATE:
Monday, January 10, 1:00 pm: Saw a white van outside.
Monday, January 10, 1:10 pm: Van is gone. Turned up thermostat. Heat appears to work.
Monday, January 10, 1:20 pm: Pilot is lit, everything seems to be working. No word from management company.
Monday, January 10, 1:28 pm: Called board of health to disregard complaint.
Though this complaint is disregarded, I’m considering asking around at work about this and figuring out if everything was done according to the books. In total, I went about 37 hours without heat.
